ASHFORD COMMUNITY CHURCH

NEWSLETTER: 9th SEPTEMBER 2018

FROM THE PASTOR’S PEN

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ

I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
John 4:35 – Jesus talking to His disciples

We have now been with you for a most enjoyable, most challenging and most wonderful year. We so much want to thank you for the love and care (and lots of food!) that you have bestowed on us since our arrival with you. We love you all very much and see the love of God shining through you to others.
The first year, now ended, was one of seeing the church renewed: a new name, a new vision, a new dynamism, a new website, a new hope. It has been a time of looking at ourselves – what we believe and the Truth of who we are in God – a chosen people, called for a purpose, eternally loved by God, His servants and the stewards of all He has entrusted us with.
We have seen that in our own strength we are weak and that it is the Holy Spirit – freely given to all who believe – who enables us to do all things.
So, now it is time to go forward. It is now time to lift up our eyes and see our community in the way that God sees it. Prayer Walking will be completed when we “claim the land” for God. And it is time to tell and show the love of God to a world that so desperately is crying out for it.
Let us therefore embrace the new teaching series that begins today – “the fruit of the Spirit”. When the world around us sees us bearing this “fruit” in both a wonderfully tender and powerful way, then they shall see God shining from us and moving out to them.
God bless you all in this new church yearPeter

MACMILLAN COFFEE AFTERNOON: On Friday 28th September between 2:30pm and 4pm, the Ladies Fellowship will be holding our annual Coffee Afternoon to raise money for cancer research. This year at least two of our families have had loved ones taken from us through cancer and we would therefore especially like to remember them, and to also show our appreciation for those who cared for them, by raising money for this worthy cause. As usual we will have a ‘bring & buy’ stall so please come prepared so that we can raise as much money as possible. This event is for everyone – not just ladies!

CHURCH WEBSITE & APP: Work on the website is ongoing and hopefully in the next few weeks more and more things can be added! The WPChurch App for smartphones is now also working. If you would like to try it out please let Gill know so that your account can be activated. This will allow you to access information, and send prayer requests etc. However, it is a work in progress and a definite learning curve so please be patient while things get worked out!
