reading
Mark 1:16-20 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon
and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were
fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to
fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. When he
had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother
John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and
they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and
followed him.

• 4 Fishermen
Fishing was a major industry in Galilee
average of about 300 fishing boats would be in the water on any given day in
the Sea of Galilee, which is about 65 square miles large.
Then they met Jesus
These fishermen were uneducated men
What training did those men have
to fish you need to be patient
To be prepared to put in the hours
Go out in all weathers and conditions
To keep going even when you do not Catch anything
To work hard and not give up easily
To work as a team
They are not the sort of people you would have in your team
Jesus called ordinary people
Jesus called them and they followed

It is Jesus who calls people to be disciples
There is a promise in verse 17 I will send you out to fish for people.”

Follow Jesus and He will send you out
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep
water, and let down the nets for a catch.”Luke 5:4
Master we were out all night
Simon Recognises Jesus as Lord
Because you Said so, I will let down the nets
Peter got more fish than he could handle
Jesus provide the fish
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away
from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”
Luke 5:8
He calls Jesus Lord
Jesus is much more than a friend (John 13.13)
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be
my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow
me.
We need to deny our wants and desire
To a person in the first-century, the cross meant one thing and one thing
only: death by the most painful and humiliating means human beings could
develop.
Christians view the cross as a cherished symbol of atonement, forgiveness,
grace, and love.
Following Jesus begins when we respond to his call to repent and believe
the gospel and make Jesus Lord of our lives
Follow Me” means a great deal more than just “Walk behind Jesus .” It
means “Doing what Jesus does,” “Live as Jesus did” and “Experience what
Jesus experience.”
To follow Christ means that we apply the truths we learn from His Word and
live as if Jesus walked beside us in person.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you
rest.Matthew 11:28
We live in a broken world, who needs to here the gospel

Follow Jesus and He will send you out
John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me
will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Jesus will lift us out of this dark world
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ
died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he
was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,1 Corinthians
15:3-4
Jesus calls us and then he sends us out
When Jesus calls us, he does not call us to sit around
He calls us to work, there is a world of lost people
Taking the love of Christ to others is what being a fisher of people is.
Every believer must be a fisher of People
The net is the gospel, this is a picture of God’s grace
The sea pictures of people swimming around in there sin
The fish are people who do not know they are living in sin
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for
the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Jesus will be with us and give us the courage to what we need to do
Jesus call us to be fisher of people
“Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.”
Luke 5:10
God will provide the people
Are you here today as the consumer?
Do you have a burn deserve to be used by God to fish for people?
Has Jesus Spoken to you today?
Do you need to get right with God
