ASHFORD COMMUNITY CHURCH

NEWSLETTER: 16th SEPTEMBER 2018

        FROM THE PASTOR’S PEN

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ

On the release of Peter and John from their arrest and questioning by the Sanhedrin the disciples together prayed to God:

29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’

We have been encouraged and excited by hearing of two wonderful healings amongst us over the past weeks.
As we choose to go forward to show the love of God to our family and community let these words of the disciples 2000 years ago become our cry and prayer today:

Our society wants to silence the church. Lord, enable us to speak Your Word with boldness and love to all those around us. Lord – as you have now evidenced through the testimony of those who were ill and are now well – show your love and power, and confirm Your Word to all who hear through the healings, signs and wonders that you wish to do through us.

Why should Ashford accept our words? When they see the love of God through the very visible signs of healings and other “signs”, and through the gentler (but in some ways even more powerful) signs of our “agape love” – our care, our concern, our listening ears – then they WILL accept that there is a loving God in Heaven who loves them and wants to meet all their needs for all eternity.

God bless       Peter

TODAY: We welcome our old friend Geoff Gould who will be bringing us the message that the Lord lays on his heart.

NEXT SUNDAY: – FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT – JOY

We continue our series and this week we focus on Joy. If you want to look at the notes for this series, and others, please check out the website.

HARVEST: There will be an opportunity to welcome family and friends to our harvest service which will be at the end of September or beginning of October. The date is yet to be finalised

LADIES FELLOWSHIP: The next meeting will be on Friday 21st September and we will be meeting at Linda’s. All ladies welcome.

MACMILLAN COFFEE AFTERNOON: On Friday 28th September between 2:30pm and 4pm, the Ladies Fellowship will be holding our annual Coffee Afternoon to raise money for cancer research. This year at least two of our families have had loved ones taken from us through cancer and we would therefore especially like to remember them, and to also show our appreciation for those who cared for them, by raising money for this worthy cause. As usual we will have a ‘bring & buy’ stall so please come prepared so that we can raise as much money as possible. This event is for everyone – not just ladies!

CHURCH WEBSITE & APP: Work on the website is ongoing and hopefully in the next few weeks more and more things can be added! The WPChurch App for smartphones is now also working. If you would like to try it out please let Gill know so that your account can be activated. This will allow you to access information, and send prayer requests etc. However, it is a work in progress and a definite learning curve so please be patient while things get worked out!

CHURCH CALENDAR: On both the website and the Church App it is now possible to access information about all the events held at the church. Please use this facility to ensure you are aware of everything that is going on at the church. If you are thinking of organising any events in the church please ensure that you will not clash with other users of the premises and pass all information to the website administrator – Gill Adsett. Thank you.

FOODBANK: Please remember the Foodbank when you go shopping and place your items in the box provided in the church. In August 243 food boxes were given out, and increase of 20% on the previous year, there is still a great need for this ministry in our community. There is a notice on the board with information about what is needed.

WEDDING:  On Saturday 22nd September at 12 noon, Aaron and Adele will be married at the church. They would love to see as many as possible at the service to share this happy event with them.
