ASHFORD COMMUNITY CHURCH

NEWSLETTER: 23rd SEPTEMBER 2018

        FROM THE PASTOR’S PEN

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ

I have been again struck by the “family life” of the Early Church – where:

All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need…They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts (Acts 2: 44-46)

They spent time together, they ate together, they worshipped together, they shared what they had with each other. And, we are then told, the church grew daily.

It is to help foster this close “Christian family life” that we again want to encourage you to download the “WP Church” app for your mobile phone or tablet. Not only will this allow you instant access to the address book but will also allow you to view the current newsletter, check the Sunday rota, see what is happening on the calendar. But, most of all it will allow you to send prayer requests so that the church family can be quickly and effectively praying for one another. Talk to Gill once you are ready and she will give you the required username and password so that you can access this.

And talking of “family life” – and eating together (!!!) – don’t forget the Harvest Festival on Sunday 7th October. Invite your family and friends to join us; bring along foodstuffs – fresh, dried and tinned – that we can then distribute to Foodbank and “Open Arms” and then share with us in a family meal afterwards at church.

God bless you all
Peter

TODAY: – FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT – JOY

We continue our series and this week we focus on Joy. Please check out the website for the sermon notes for the series.

NEXT SUNDAY: We welcome for the first time Pastor Temi Omolade who will be our guest speaker and will be bringing us the message that the Lord lays on his heart.

CHURCH WEBSITE & APP: The website and App are up and running and both have lots of information on them. We would now like everyone who has a smartphone, either android or iphone, to download the app and make use of the information available at your fingertips. Please let Gill know when you have downloaded the app as your user name and password will need to be generated before you can access the data sensitive areas.

CHURCH CALENDAR: All church events are now on the calendar so please check the website and the app for information. Please inform Gill of any events that need to be added.

HARVEST: There will be an opportunity to welcome family and friends to our harvest service on October 7th. There will be a fellowship lunch after the service. Also, please be prepared to bring along some fresh, tinned or dried foods as these will be given to various good causes such as Open Arms and Foodbank.

LADIES FELLOWSHIP: The next meeting will be on Friday 5th October and we will be meeting at Gill’s. All ladies welcome.

MACMILLAN COFFEE AFTERNOON: This Friday, 28th September, between 2:30pm and 4pm, the Ladies Fellowship will be holding our annual Coffee Afternoon to raise money for cancer research. This year at least two of our families have had loved ones taken from us through cancer and we would therefore especially like to remember them, and to also show our appreciation for those who cared for them, by raising money for this worthy cause. As usual we will have a ‘bring & buy’ stall so please come prepared so that we can raise as much money as possible. This event is for everyone – not just ladies!

MENS BREAKFAST: Saturday 6th October at Willesborough Baptist Church. The speaker is Jason Van Haaster from London City Mission. Also on Saturday 10th November – Going Against the Grain, based on the book by Nathan Blackaby is the lasted CVM Men’s Tour event at Mary Bredin, Canterbury.

Please talk to one of the Elders if you are interested in these events.

ASHFORD CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S BREAKFAST: Saturday 13th October at the Elwick Club. Guest speaker – Sola Ifekoya. Cost £10 which includes a full English Breakfast

FOODBANK: Don’t forget the Foodbank. Our contributions are vital to this ministry.
